Introduction

Welcome, I'm Whitey and I love the outdoors, boating and especially my fishing. Living in Australind, I have fished locally for years and have gained a vast knowledge of the area. I have also had the opportunity to fish all over Australia which has developed my knowledge of the sport.

PORT HEADLAND & KARRATHA / DAMPIER FISHING REPORT

PORT HEADLAND.

Fishing the local creeks is a great place to start with big threadfin salmon as well as mangrove jacks and cod. Using soft plastics is a popular method as well as rapala X-Raps in hardbody lures. Fishing the T-Jetty in town at night time can be awesome for Balck Jewfish, using fresh fillets or 8'' plastics are your best shot. The harbour can produce the odd barramundi - using lures in the blue/silver colours are popular. Out wide you can get into the red emporer as well as all the other popular bottom dwelling species.

KARRATHA / DAMPIER

In the summer months the local creeks will fire with the like of Barramundi, Mangrove jack, Black jewfish, Thredfin salmon, Bluenose salmon, Mullet, whiting and bream. Offshore fishing is great with common species such as Mackerel, Tuna, sailfish, marlin, trevally, cobia, coral trout, rankin cod, qeenfish and many of the emperor species. Using lures is a great way to target the above species with the following popular choices: Halco RMG scorpions, Halco Roosta poppers, Rapala X-Rap lures, Richter Skirted lures, Maria bullchop stick baits and the halco twisty range.

That's all for this week folks and we look forward to seeing you out there!

Good luck

AUSTRALIND & BUNBURY FISHING REPORT

The beaches are still firing with plenty of Tailor to be had. Tailor to 55cm are a common catch which is an excellent size fish for the area. There are also plenty of herring around once a bit of berley is introduced to the water.

Back in the estuary the whiting continue to fire. They seem to be staying around longer than in years past and people are making the most of it. Early morning and late afternoons are the pick, with surface lures over shallow ground still proving their worth. Look for shallow clean ground with some surrounding weed banks. This is where the small prawns hide and that’s what the whiting are taking the poppers as.

Offshore some nice snapper are turning up for those in the know. Late nights and big oily baits are proving a good recipe for a bit of pink action. Drifting lightly weighted baits back in a nice berley slick should get some interest. This way you’ll limit your ray bycatch and should keep some of those pesky crabs at bay. The Dhufish are also in numbers. Getting out around the 33m mark is the place to start.

A few smaller mulloway are turning up in the local rivers but bream have been a bit harder to find. A recent run of bony herring up the system have turned the Mulloway on. On the right tides and moon phase you can here the predators rounding up the school of baitfish as they slash through the timid schools. If you can get some small live mullet out there, you should be in with a shot.
